  • Oats: The backbone of any granola, oats provide a hearty, fiber-rich base that turns beautifully crispy in the air fryer, offering a wholesome start to your day.
  • Nuts (like almonds, walnuts, or pecans): These crunchy additions not only introduce healthy fats and protein but also give your granola a delightful bite and depth of flavor.
  • Sweeteners (like honey or maple syrup): Binding the granola and adding a touch of sweetness, these natural syrups caramelize under the air fryer’s heat, ensuring every cluster is a sweet treat.
  • Dried fruits (like raisins or cranberries): Offering a chewy contrast to the crispy oats and nuts, dried fruits infuse your granola with bursts of natural sweetness and essential vitamins.
  • Oil (like coconut or olive oil): Essential for that golden finish, a dash of oil ensures your granola crisps up evenly while enhancing its overall flavor profile.
  • Seasonings (like cinnamon or vanilla extract): These aromatic additions elevate the granola from plain to gourmet, imbuing every bite with warming notes and a touch of luxury.

These ingredients combine to create a customizable and wholesome Air Fryer Granola that you can enjoy as a breakfast cereal, snack, or versatile ingredient in various recipes.

Making granola in the air fryer is a simple and efficient process. Here’s how to do it:

Air Fryer Granola

Step One: Prepare The Ingredients

Preheat the air fryer to 325 degrees F, or 160 C, for 3-5 minutes. This step ensures that the air fryer is at the right temperature when you add the granola.

Step Two: Add The Other Ingredients

Combine Dry Ingredients: Combine the rolled oats and chopped nuts in a large bowl. You can choose or combine your favorite nuts for added flavor and texture.

In a small saucepan, heat oil and honey on medium heat. Whisk until the mixture gets warm and combines.

Coat the Oats and Nuts: Pour the sweetener mixture over the dry ingredients (oats and nuts) in the large mixing bowl. Stir well to ensure that all the dry ingredients are coated evenly.

Step Four: Air Fry The Granola

Place the mixture into the air fryer basket, spreading it in an even layer. Depending on the capacity of your air fryer, you may need to do this in batches. Ensure good airflow for even cooking.

Cook the granola in the preheated air fryer at 325 degrees F (150°C) for 10-15 minutes. Check and shake the basket every 5 minutes to prevent burning and ensure even browning. Use a wooden spoon or rubber spatula to break up the granola clusters as they cook.

Step Five: Mix-Ins

After the initial cooking time, add the dried fruits and seeds to the granola mixture in the air fryer. Stir well to combine.

Remove the granola from the air fryer and allow the granola to cool completely. It will continue to crisp up as it cools. Break the granola into small pieces and then store the granola in an airtight container.

Recipe Variations and Substitutions

  • Vegan Delight: Substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar for a vegan-friendly version. Opt for coconut oil, avocado oil, or almond butter.
  • Nut-Free Granola: Skip the nuts or peanut butter entirely, or replace them with pumpkin, sunflower, or chia seeds for those with nut allergies.
  • Tropical Twist: Add dried fruit like pineapple, mango, pumpkin seeds, and coconut flakes. Consider using coconut oil for an added tropical aroma.
  • Chocolate Lovers: Stir in cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips after the granola has cooled. Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to the mixture before air frying.
  • Protein Boost: Mix in a scoop of your favorite protein powder or collagen peptides to the wet ingredients. Add a handful of hemp seeds for extra protein.
  • Grain-Free Keto Version: Replace oats with a mixture of nuts and seeds like almonds, pecans, sunflower seeds, and chia seeds. Use a keto-friendly sweetener like erythritol or stevia.
  • Spiced-Up: Add nutmeg, ginger, and cardamom to your granola mix for a warmer spice profile.
  • Berries Galore: Swap out standard raisins for a mixture of dried blueberries, cranberries, and raspberries for a berry-licious flavor.
  • Ninja Foodi Granola: Use the same recipe, reducing the cooking temperature to 300 degrees F.

Remember, making granola is more of an art than a strict science. Feel free to experiment and customize your mix based on what’s available in your pantry or your current flavor cravings. The air fryer ensures a crispy finish no matter how you personalize your recipe!

Pro Tips

Achieving the perfect batch of Air Fryer Granola is easy with these pro tips:

  • Preheat Your Air Fryer: Just like with an oven, preheating your air fryer ensures that it’s at the right temperature, promoting even cooking and browning.
  • Use Rolled Oats: Old-fashioned rolled oats work best for granola, providing the ideal texture. Avoid quick oats or steel-cut oats, as they won’t yield the same results.
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: For even cooking, spread the granola mixture in a thin, even layer in the air fryer basket. If needed, cook in batches to prevent overcrowding.
  • Stir and Shake: During the cooking process, pause and shake the air fryer basket or stir the granola mixture every 5 minutes. This helps ensure that all parts of the granola cook evenly and prevent burning.
  • Add Dried Fruits Later: To prevent dried fruits from becoming overly crisp or burnt, add them to the granola mixture during the last few minutes of cooking or after the granola has cooled.
  • Store Properly: Once your granola is cool, store it in an airtight container to maintain its freshness and crispiness. A sealable glass jar or plastic container works well.
  • Customize and Experiment: Granola is highly customizable. Feel free to experiment with nuts, seeds, sweeteners, and flavorings to create your perfect blend.
  • Control Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness of your granola by varying the amount of honey or maple syrup used. You can also add sweetness through dried fruits or a drizzle of sweetener after cooking.
  • Add Flavorings After Air Frying: Some flavorings, like extracts or spices, can be added after the granola has been air-fried and cooled slightly. This ensures that their delicate flavors aren’t lost during cooking. Chocolate chips, coconut flakes, brown sugar, dried fruit, or added sugar are great options.
  • Watch Carefully: Keep a close eye on your granola, especially in the final minutes of cooking. It can go from perfectly golden to overcooked quickly, so be attentive.
  • Use Parchment Paper: To simplify cleanup and prevent sticking, you can line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Just make sure it doesn’t obstruct the air circulation.

  3. Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Keep the container in a pantry or cupboard, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
  4. Duration: When stored properly, the granola should remain fresh and crunchy for up to two weeks.
  5. Freezing: If you’d like to store it for an extended period, you can freeze the granola. Place it in a freezer-safe bag or container, press out as much air as possible, and store in the freezer. When ready to eat, allow it to come to room temperature for the best texture.
