Air Fryer Pretzel Bites Ingredients
- Warm Water
- Granulated Sugar
- Salt
- Active Dry Yeast
- All-Purpose Flour
- Butter
- Egg
- Baking Soda
How To Make Air Fryer Pretzel Bites
In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, salt, and yeast. Let the yeast active for 5 minutes. If you do not get any reaction, the water was too cold or hot, and/or the yeast was old; therefore, the dough will not rise.
Mix in the flour, melted butter, and mix well. Mix well until the dough is well combined, and then knead it for a few minutes. Let the dough rise until about doubled, and it took my dough to rise about 50 minutes.
After the dough has risen, add the water and baking soda to a large saucepan, and bring to a boil.
I made small dough balls, about 2 inch balls. Dip them into the water/baking soda mixture for about 30 seconds. Let them sit for about 1 minute. Dip them into the whisked egg. Then place them on the air fryer tray or in the air fryer basket.
Set the pretzels into the air fryer basket or oven and air fry for 5 minutes at 350 degrees F, and then spay them with olive oil and air fry at 400 degrees for another 4 minutes.
PRO TIPS:
- I have prepared these in the Ninja Foodi, Instant Pot Vortex, and other Air Fryer baskets and oven models. The recipe will work exactly the same, with the exception of the cooking time might vary by a minute or two.
- If your dough does not bubble, do not continue with the recipe, as the yeast reaction did not work.
CAN YOU FREEZE PRETZEL BITES?
You can freeze them in two different ways, and you can either freeze them before or after you cook the dough.
If you want to free the dough, make your pretzel bites and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet into the freezer, and freeze until frozen solid.
Then transfer the frozen pretzel bite dough to a freezer bag. They will last for about 1 to 2 months. Then bake the frozen pretzel bite dough, per the instructions below.
If you want to freeze the cooked Air Fryer Pretzel Bites, place them into a freezer bag after cooling to room temperature and placing them into an airtight container or freezer bag. They will last 2 to 3 months. To use, let them thaw at room temperature.
