What Is A Galette?

A galette is really another way to make an easy pie. Since you do not have to worry about the top, it becomes truly easy to prepare and cook.

The air fryer does an amazing job at perfectly cooking them up. The bottom becomes perfectly cooked and baked through, and the top becomes warm and gooey. It’s a great way to make an air fryer pie in minutes.

Air Fryer Country Apple Galette

In a food processor, combine flour, sugar, salt, and butter and process for a few seconds. Slowly add in ice water, tablespoon by tablespoon, pulsing the mixture until it begins to come together (with small pieces of butter still showing).

Take pastry mixture out of food processor and use hands to form into a disk. Wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerator until chilled.

Meanwhile, prepare the filling by tossing apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.

Place dough on a floured counter. Roll out dough into a large circle. Arrange apple slices on top of the dough, leaving space to fold in the edges. Fold in edges and brush pastry and apples with melted butter, then drizzle apples with honey.

What Kind Of Apples Should I Use?

My suggestion would be twofold. Use whatever you have on hand, and use a firm apple, that will hold its shape during the cooking process.

Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, and Braeburn are some great suggestions for the perfect apples.

Pro Tips:

  • Start with really cold butter to make the crust flaky. You can even shave the butter into the mixture. This works perfectly in the air fryer as the hot air cooks up the dough.
  • Use parchment paper. Otherwise, your dough will stick. But make sure that the parchment paper is weighted down correctly.
  • Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Slice your apples thinly. This way, they all cook up.
  • Do not overfill; remember, you need to fold the edges over.

How To Store Air Fryer Country Apple Galette

This makes for a great make-ahead dessert. If you have any leftover galettes, place them into an airtight container.

They will last in the refrigerator for about 1 to 2 days.

How To Freeze Air Fryer Country Apple Galette

This is an easy recipe to prepare ahead of time and freeze. You can either make it and then freeze it, or you can prepare it then freeze it.

If you freeze it after you make it, place it flat into a freezer bag, and then place it somewhere in your freezer that it will not get smooshed.

Some Other Variations of Fillings:

While I used a classic apple galette recipe, you can easily change it out to any fresh fruit that you have or is in season. Some of my favorites are:

  • Peaches
  • Berries, Blackberries, Strawberries or Blueberries
  • Mangos
