A pork belly is a cut of meat that comes from the front end of the pig’s stomach. It can be cooked in many ways, but it is most commonly fried because it has plenty of natural fat to keep it moist and delicious. Pork belly tastes best when served with applesauce or apple jelly for dipping.

4. Meanwhile, prepare the spicy ginger sauce. Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender and purée until smooth and pour into a medium mixing bowl. Whisk together cornstarch and water to make a slurry and add this to the mixing bowl. Whisk well, and pour the sauce into a saucepan. Cook over high heat until the mixture starts to boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer for 10 minutes to thicken.

Pro Tips:

  • The skin on Or Off? Dry the skin off, so it’s perfectly crackling at the end.
  • Seasonings: You can add spices, although today, I made a simple air fryer crispy pork belly. Some great seasonings would be garlic powder, onion powder, and Chinese Five Spice.
  • Cutting Pork Belly: Cuts into the pork belly will allow the meat to be tender at the end. So use a sharp knife to prepare the pork belly before air frying. The slices will allow for the spices and olive oil to seep through the meat.
  • Resting Time: Let the pork belly rest before serving.

What to Look for When Buying Pork Belly

Pork bellies are sold at most grocery stores year-round, so you’ll always have access to them! You’ll want to check with your butcher before purchasing one because not all pork bellies are created equal.

Where Can You Buy Pork Belly?

I have found pork belly at a variety of grocery stores, including Costco, Trader Joe’s, Aldi, and even Whole Foods. It’s usually kept in the meat cabinet, so the next time you go, ask at your meat counter.

The two things to look for when you are looking for a great pork belly for air frying are:

  • The piece should be relatively flat so that all of the hot air can easily circulate through the pork belly.
  • Look for an excellent meater option. There will be a lot of fat on the pork belly, but make sure that there is a lot of meat on it.

What to Serve Crispy Roast Pork Belly with?

Traditionally this is served with a rice bowl, but you can use it as a breakfast item served alongside a plate of scrambled eggs. This also makes for a great pork belly sandwich, served with some coleslaw on top!

You can also flavor these pork belly bites, either using a bbq pork belly recipe, a Chinese pork belly recipe, or just with a simple sauce!

How to store?

For best results, serve this on the same day that you air fry it, but if you have any leftovers, let it cool to room temperature, and then place it into an airtight container.

It will last for about 2 to 3 days. To reheat, you can place it in the microwave or reheat it in the air fryer. Heat until warmed through.

Can you freeze?

Yes, although it may not defrost well. Let the pork belly cool to room temperature, and then place it into a freezer container or bag. It will last for about 2 to 3 months.

How to reheat crispy pork belly?

If you have any leftovers, place them into the air fryer and reheat them at 400 degrees F. The air fryer is set for 8 to 10 minutes.

I usually add some olive oil and seasonings before reheating.
