Air Fryer Beer Battered Fish is fantastic! If you have been wondering how to make battered fish in the air fryer, this is a perfect way! And it’s so good!

I am from Boston, where we had fish every Friday; obviously, I grew up in an Italian Catholic household, if any of you are thinking or nodding in agreement.

Why Beer Battered Fish In Air Fryer?

Fridays were always reserved for fish. My mother would usually pick up a cod or haddock, depending on what was on sale. Today, I made my mom’s Air Fryer Beer Battered Fish recipe using cod, but other white fishes would work perfectly here.

I used beer for the batter, and it was light and crispy; it didn’t look the prettiest, but it was good. So, I will post it, and the next time I make it, I’ll work on the pictures. But I want you to have this recipe because it was so good.

If you have never had beer-battered fish, it’s light and crispy, and your air fries it until it’s golden brown and crispy. It is usually served with french fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce.

Dip the fish pieces into the beer batter, shaking off the excess, and then place them in the flour dredge, shaking off the lot. Use your hands to make sure the fish is coated.

To let the fish fully crisp up, you will need to spray it generously with cooking spray, meaning over the entire fish batter.

Set the temperature to 380 degrees F for 12 minutes, flipping halfway and respraying the olive oil.

Pro Tips:

Preheating You do not need to preheat your air fryer. It’s better to start with a cold air fryer (room temperature); otherwise, your batter could easily fall off.

Crowding: For best results, leave plenty of room around your fish. The hot air can crisp up your beer batter and make for a crispy fish.

Flipping: Depending on your air fryer, you may need to flip your fish halfway during the cooking process. This will depend on what air fryer you are using.

Seasonings: if you want to add some spice, you can mix 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper into the flour mixture or add a dash of tabasco sauce into the beer batter.

What Type of Fish Should You Use?

This is an actual old-fashioned recipe that has fantastic flavor. It is typically served with cod, but you can change it for any white fish. My favorites (being from Boston) are Cod.

What Is Beer Batter?

It is a wet batter that is made from beer. The carbonation in the beer causes your batter to get crispy.

Can You Use Wet Batter In The Air Fryer?

Although you might lose some of your coatings, there is nothing wrong with using wet batter in the air fryer. Some of the tricks that I have learned over the years are to keep the coating on, and you want to make sure the batter is not too thick. Otherwise, the batter will fall off the fish.

I also recommend spraying the fish after you coat olive oil or another high heat oil with it. This adheres the batter to the fish.

What Type of Beer To Use In Beer Battered Fish?

The perfect beer for making fish batter is any pale-colored lager. Avoiding dark, strong flavors will ensure that your dish doesn’t become too colorful and tastes just as good!

Some great beers to use are:

  • Corona
  • Budweiser
  • Michelob Beer
