Tips For Making This Pineapple Bacon Appetizer

  • Flexible recipe. You can use either fresh or canned pineapples.
  • Cut your bacon so that it fits flat in the air fryer.
  • Prep these ahead of time, then reheat them right before your guests arrive.
  • Skip preheating. You do not need to preheat your air fryer for this recipe.
  • Don’t add too much to your basket. For best results, do not crowd your air fryer basket. Otherwise, your bacon wrapped pineapple bites won’t crisp up correctly!
  • Serve hot or cold. This recipe is delicious either way, so serve it however is convenient for you!
  • Adjust time. If you use a thicker cut of bacon, you may need to adjust the cooking time.
  • Soak your toothpicks. To ensure your toothpicks don’t burn in the air fryer, I suggest soaking them in water for 10-15 minutes before using.

Storing Tips

Make Ahead

You can make these bacon wrapped pineapple bites in advance doing everything except the final step in the air fryer. Refrigerate overnight in an airtight container and before serving, put them in the air fryer for the final step.

Note that if you put them in cold, you may have to adjust the cooking time by a few minutes!

Leftovers

These bacon wrapped pineapple appetizers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the air fryer.

Recipe FAQs

Do you serve bacon wrapped pineapple hot or cold?

It is delicious either way!

What kind of bacon should you use for bacon wrapped pineapple bites?

Thin or center cut bacon will work the best.

Should I use canned or fresh pineapple?

Either will work. I love keeping some fresh fruit on hand for pineapple appetizers. However, canned is a great option when it isn’t in season.

Can you put toothpicks in an air fryer?

I often use toothpicks in my air fryer without any trouble. But for best results, I would soak your toothpicks in water for about 10 to 15 minutes before using them in the air fryer. But remember to check your owner’s manual for safety concerns since every air fryer is slightly different.

Can you make this recipe in the oven?

Yes! Wrap the fruit in bacon and place it on a large baking sheet. Add sauce and cook in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until the outside is crispy.

Can you buy pineapple year round?

This will depend on where you live. I can usually find it throughout the year at the local grocery store, Whole Foods, Costco, or even Trader Joe’s.
