Faq’s

Can I make this sandwich with frozen bacon? Yes, you can use frozen bacon. However, you may need to add a few extra minutes to the cooking time to ensure it gets crispy. It’s best to separate the slices before cooking if possible.

How can I prevent the bread from flying around in the air fryer? To prevent lighter items like bread from being tossed by the air fryer’s circulation, you can use a trivet or a metal rack that fits inside your air fryer basket to weigh them down, or simply place another air fryer-safe dish on top.

Can I use any type of bread for this sandwich? While you can use any type of bread, thicker slices from a sturdy loaf (such as sourdough or whole grain) work best as they hold up well against the moisture from the egg and cheese without becoming soggy.

Is it necessary to flip the sandwich while it’s cooking? For even cooking and browning, it’s a good idea to flip the sandwich halfway through if you’re toasting the assembled sandwich in the air fryer. If you’re just toasting the bread, flipping ensures both sides are crispy.

Can this sandwich be made ahead of time? While best enjoyed fresh, you can prepare the sandwich ahead of time and reheat it in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 360°F (182°C) to refresh the crispiness of the bread and warm the fillings.

How do I store leftovers? Store any leftover sandwich components separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. Reassemble and reheat in the air fryer when ready to eat.

Can I add vegetables to my sandwich? Absolutely! Adding vegetables like spinach, tomatoes, or avocados after the cooking process is a great way to include more nutrients and flavors.

What if my air fryer doesn’t have a low enough setting to cook the egg gently? If your air fryer runs hot, you can cook the egg in a small, heat-safe container within the air fryer to protect it from direct heat, or cook it on the stove for more temperature control.

Can I make multiple sandwiches at once? Depending on the size of your air fryer, you might be able to make two sandwiches side by side. Just ensure there’s enough space for the air to circulate for even cooking.

Description

Like most people obsessed with their air fryers, I usually see something and say I can make that in my air fryer. So, when my son wanted to order a 7 dollar sandwich at Starbucks, I thought, I could make that!

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread, of your favorite bread
  • 2-3 slices bacon
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice cheese, cheddar, American, Swiss, etc.
  • 1 teaspoon Butter, optional, for toasting the bread
  • 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt, to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Set your air fryer to 390°F (199°C) and let it preheat for a few minutes.
  • Place the bacon slices in the air fryer basket. Cook for about 7-10 minutes, or until crispy, depending on the thickness of the bacon. Once done, transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
  • Lightly grease a small, heat-safe bowl or cup with non-stick spray or a bit of oil. Crack an egg into the bowl, season with salt and pepper, and lightly beat it. Alternatively, you can leave the egg whole for a dippier yolk.
  • Place the bowl in the air fryer and cook at 370°F (187°C) for 3-4 minutes, or until the egg is cooked to your liking.
  • If desired, lightly butter each slice of bread for extra flavor and crispiness. Place the bread slices in the air fryer basket and cook at 370°F (187°C) for about 2-3 minutes, or until toasted to your preference. You might need to do this step in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.
  • On one slice of toasted bread, layer the cooked bacon, followed by the cooked egg. Place a slice of cheese on top of the hot egg so it begins to melt.
  • Top with the second slice of toasted bread. If desired, you can return the whole sandwich to the air fryer for an additional minute to ensure the cheese is fully melted and the sandwich is heated through.
  • Serve:
  • Cut the sandwich in half, if desired, and serve immediately while warm and crispy.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

  • Wait until the cheese is completely melted before removing the toast.
  • For best results, assemble the sandwich and then put it back into the air fryer for a couple of seconds so everything melts together.
  • Use a bit more butter than you think you should. The butter melts into the bread and causes it to be amazing.
  • Frying eggs, leave it a bit runny in the center, so when you bite into the bread, it oozes out.
