How To Make An Air Fryer Pot Pie

First step in the chicken pot pie air fryer recipe.

Step 1: Make Crust

Spray a round baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Place 4 biscuits in the bottom of the dish and press down until you have an even layer.

Place in the air fryer and cook for 3 minutes at 350 degrees F, air fryer setting. This will allow the bottom crust to be cooked through.

Step 2: Fill Pot Pie

In a small bowl, mix together the diced chicken, soup, and vegetables. Mix well.

Place your filling in the center of the bottom crust. Then, top with the 4 remaining biscuits.

Transfer to the air fryer and set the temperature to 330 degrees F for 5-7 minutes on the air fryer setting. Remove once golden brown.

Tips for Making the Best Air Fryer Pot Pie

  • Use your favorite crust. If you prefer pie crust over biscuits, you can use that instead for a pot pie you’re sure to love.
  • Use your favorite air fryer. This recipe has been prepared in several different air fryers including the Ninja Foodi, PowerXL, Nuwave, Cosori, Instant Pot, and other air fryer basket and air fryer oven models. The recipe will remain the same, with the timing varying by a minute or two.
  • Use leftover meat from previous meals to keep this recipe as convenient and low-effort as possible for those evenings you just don’t want to cook!

Can I Substitute the Chicken?

Most air fryer pot pies are made with chunks of chicken, but what if you’re out of chicken or don’t want to cook it? You can easily substitute the chicken with a variety of other ingredients. Some great options are:

  • Turkey: Is there nothing better than using your leftover Air Fryer Thanksgiving turkey to create an Air Fryer Turkey Pot Pie?
  • Ham: Another great way to use the leftover Air Fryer Easter Ham.
  • Rotisserie Chicken: Have some leftover Costco Chicken? This is a great recipe to use it up.

Rather than cooking meat from scratch, I like to use leftover meat from previous meals to make my pot pie in the air fryer as low-effort as possible.

Can I Use a Store-Bought Crust?

If you do not want to use biscuits, you can use store-bought pie crust or even homemade pie crust instead. Remember to cook the crust until golden brown before adding your filling.

If you want to use a frozen pie crust, remember to thaw and cook the pie crust before adding your filling.

Can I Use Any Dish to Make Pot Pie in the Air Fryer?

You can use any dish that fits into the air fryer when making pot pie in the air fryer. For best results, do not use a very thick dish. Use a mini cast iron pan, round cake pan, or even a small casserole dish.

How Do You Store Chicken Pot Pie?

Chicken pot pie will keep in the fridge for 3-5 days. Just be sure to store it in a sealed, airtight container or wrap it tightly in foil or plastic to keep it from spoiling.

I’ve stored mine in a Tupperware container and also wrapped it in the (cooled) dish that I cooked it in. Both times it stayed fresh for when I reheated it the next day!

Can I Freeze Chicken Pot Pie?

Is there anything more comforting than a chicken pot pie on a cold winter day? This air fryer pot pie is a classic dish that can be made ahead of time and frozen for later.

Make as directed, then wrap tightly with foil and place it into a freezer bag. It will keep for 2-6 months frozen.

Let your air fryer chicken pot pie thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then cook for best results.

How to Reheat Chicken Pot Pie in Air Fryer

To keep your top and bottom crusts from getting mushy, I advise against microwaving leftovers from this chicken pot pie air fryer recipe.

My favorite method is to reheat pot pie in the air fryer. Set the temperature to 350 degrees F on the air fryer setting and cook for 10 minutes, or until warmed through.

Is Chicken Pot Pie Healthy?

A pot pie is comfort food through and through. However, there’s room for any meal in a healthy lifestyle if eaten in moderation, and I justify this meal by noting that it’s high in protein and includes vegetables.

If you’re counting calories or macros, you can make a leaner (but still comforting) version of this meal by using a low fat cream of chicken soup and halving the biscuits to make a thinner crust and topping!
