How long to marinate chicken in the buttermilk:

Are you looking for a way to tenderize your chicken? Why not try marinating it in buttermilk? But how long should you let the chicken soak in the buttermilk for maximum flavor?

To get all of the flavors from the buttermilk it’s best to marinate for at least 2 hours, but for best results marinate for about 10 to 12 hours.  You do not want to marinade too long, otherwise, the buttermilk will start to break down the chicken.

How To Make Your Own Buttermilk:

If you’ve ever tried to make your own buttermilk, you know that it is as simple as adding milk and vinegar to a recipe. The important thing to get correct is the ratios, here is my foolproof recipe:

  • 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 cup of milk (any type, nut, whole, almond, etc.)

How To Store Leftover Chicken:

If you have any leftover chicken, let it cool to room temperature, and then place it into an airtight container. It will last in the refrigerator for about 2 to 3 days.

You can reheat in the microwave or in the air fryer, heat until warmed through.

Don’t forget the side dishes!

This dish goes with so many side dishes, anything from a simple salad, to a large plate of Air Fryer Macaroni And Cheese. Here are some of my favorite side dishes:
