What Are Potato Skins?

Potato skins are a great appetizer for game day or any time you want to eat something delicious. You can stuff them with fillings, but this recipe is for potato skins with bacon and cheese. It’s essential to ensure the potatoes are dehydrated before baking them in the oven so they don’t get soggy from the grease from cooking the bacon. You may also want to add some salt and pepper when you cook your bacon if desired!

How To Make Instant Pot Loaded Potato Skins

Instant Pot Loaded Potato Skins

Add the water to your Instant Pot, your steamer basket, and your potatoes (cut them into halves). Arrange them in the steamer basket. Set the manual high temperature for 10 minutes with the vent closed, and let it naturally release.

When they are cool enough to touch, take out the inner potato and repeat until all potatoes have a spot for the cheese.

Then add the cheese to the potatoes and place them back into the Instant Pot. Without the steamer, hit the saute button and put the lid on them. The cheese will melt after a few minutes. Or you could microwave them for a minute.

Garnish with your choice of toppings.

Toppings for Baked Potato Skins

When it comes to cooking potatoes, there are many ways you can go about doing so. One way is by baking them skin side up with a flavorful topping of your choice.

Some of my favorite toppings are:

  • Salsa
  • Sour Cream
  • Guacamole
  • Pulled Pork
  • Sloppy Joe Meat
  • Broccoli and Cheese

Can Potato Skins Be Made Ahead of Time

Potato Skins are a delicious appetizer that can be made ahead of time and then heated up when you’re ready to serve them.

For best results, make the baked potatoes first and then let the baked potatoes cool. And then finish the recipe right before you want to serve them. This way, the cheese will be hot, melted, and gooey!

Freezing Instant Pot Loaded Potato Skins

You can also freeze these potato skins. Let them cool to room temperature, and then place them onto a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet into the freezer, and freeze the potatoes until frozen solid. Transfer the frozen potato skins to a freezer bag or a freezer-safe container. They will last for about 2 to 3 months.

Then when you want to cook them up, y9ou can bake them right from frozen.
